Requesting COAST's Presence
In the future we will provide an online form for you to submit a request. For the time being, please e-mail the COAST advisor, Brittan Trozzi, at btrozzi@ucsd.edu with the name, date, time, and description of the event; how many ambassadors you would like present; the desired roles the ambassadors would assume; any relevant details about dress code and background information about the event, and contact information (both e-mail and phone number, please).

Types of Events
Chancellor's Associates (CA)
A certain dollar amount, donated to the University under Chancellor's Associates is an unrestricted gift (meaning it can be used for virtually anything-within the law, of course). Becoming a member of CA entitles the giver to certain privileges including parking, use of the libraries, athletic facilities etc. and invitations to special events hosted by the Chancellor or her designate.

Typically, COAST members are asked to participate in recruitment events, Associates meetings, campus tours, and Donor recognition events.

Recruitment Events
Typically breakfast or lunch sometimes held on campus at the Faculty Club, or at the University House (the Chancellor's residence). COAST members sit at the table with guests and engage in conversation. We provide a listing of attendees prior to the events and you may be asked to make it a point to speak with certain people.

Campus Tours
COAST members are given the honor to guide (alumni) donors, highlight the additions and improvements of our campus, and initiate engaging dialogue on matters that may interest the guest.

Associates Meetings
Associates meets are used to encourage mingling by members and typically includes a faculty lecture. COAST members mingle and talk about student life.

Donor Recognition Events
These are generally special events to recognize the contributions of one or a select few donors. Presentations are made and people mingle a bit. COAST members also mingle.

UCSD Near You
UCSD Near You brings UCSD academic and artistic excellence on the road to alumni, parents and friends. These engagements provide an opportunity for you to meet distinguished speakers and discover firsthand how the University is at the forefront of innovation. This is an evening of stimulating discussion and the opportunity to meet and network with friends. This is your chance to hear top researchers speak about their fields of expertise and to participate in a lively Q&A session.

COAST members facilitate conversations (through personal knowledge/experience of the topic or distribution of available, applicable literature) and stimulate guests' curiosities on the featured topic of the evening.

Board of Overseeers (BOO)
As incepted in the early 1970s, the UCSD Board of Overseers serves as an effective liaison between the university and community. The members represent a cross section of residents, usually CEOs of local firms, educators, attorneys, and civic and social leaders. They advise the Chancellor and other university policy-makers on pertinent issues such as development plans, industry relations, and other matters of concern for the community and the campus.

Though BOO meets only four times a year between September and May, various BOO committees are also opportunities for participation: health sciences, facilities and transportation, arts, public relations, and education.

COAST students are invited to both the BOO meetings and the special committee hearings and lectures. As the student representative at the meetings, COAST members are expected to be educated on the issue on hand, and your opinions and participation may be requested.
